Hal was the first entity I encountered in Mysteria. When I first met him, I had accidentally consumed fruit contaminated with high-grade lucite, and I was tripping out of my mind. To be honest, the fact that he was there to help me calm down is probably the reason why I am still alive right now.
He told me that he used to be a resident of Lake Clearwater, a human, just like me. He and a few friends entered the portal on a dare and got separated from each other. He does not know where the other two are, or what happened to them. He said that he had a relationship with an entity named Delulu, one that ended badly. Delulu introduced Hal to the concept of Lucite as a recreational drug, which he used occasionally, but never in high doses, that is,until the night Delulu left. Hal didn't want to go over the details, but there was a breakup, a messy one.
Alone in the dark, cold fog of the Tidepools, abandoned by the only entity he felt he could trust, Hal followed the same light I did to the same grotto where I met him. Seeing the cavern was full of Lucite crystals, he took one to ease his pain. Unfortunately, the crystals in the Lucite Grotto are much higher grade than what he had been using before. He miscalculated the dosage. It amplified his despair instead of calming it. He wanted to die. No, he wanted more. In that moment, the thing he desired the most was to never have existed,
...
And then he didn't.
When he woke up, he was an echo of himself, less than a ghost. He spent a long time wandering mysteria after that. Nobody knew or remembered him. Not even Delulu. Years pass. How many, he does not know, but it was a long time all the same.
He assumed he would never again be able to interact with the material world.
And then he met me, he realized that I could see him, or his reflection in shards of lucite. Perhaps it was the effect that my Lucite trip had that brought him back.
Anyway, after a bit of testing, we determined that others can see him only when in an altered state of mind, or in the reflection of Lucite shards when already aware of him, and that he can also speak to those aware of him. I crafted a lens from a piece of Lucite and when I look through it, I am able to percieve him. It is notable that others don't seem to be able to unless they meet him while tripping first.
